Train Hard - Stay Humble

Information

South Bay

We all know how hard it is to get up to the jams in SF every weekend. How about organizing a couple jams closer to home and repping the South Bay?

Hello,

I didn't know about the sessions at Saratoga high on Saturdays...what are the times for practice?

If it works for you, great. My experience w/ starting groups has been in contexts where # of attendants matters, it sounds like maybe this is different.

I think it's not so much of a jam as just a training session. Think of it almost as a class without a teacher, if you will. We all learn from each other's experiences and get better. It's basically to have a concrete time for everybody to come out and train. If you can only make it once or twice a month, that's fine too.

I've been training with friends every day. Every week doesn't sound too bad to me. Send me a message if you want to train with us daily(the friends I'm with haven't created BApk account- which is why it doesn't show on our events), or otherwise just come to our sessions on Saturday. Though I must warn you, our daily sessions... Have peculiar times.

Even if there's a single person there, my brother and I will usually turn up to help them along. It's difficult and quite intimidating without anyone to help, so a predictable time allows newcomers on the site to come whenever they want to.

...generally speaking 'turnout' is not as significant as frequency and regularity.

The fact that there is somebody, who -pretty much no matter what- dedicates him/her-self to go out and train, often and at a predictable time and place, supporting beginners, giving pointers and keeping in touch with the community at large, is extremely relevant for the organic growth of parkour practice in a given area.

The South Bay Saturdays have been going for almost one year now, and have given opportunity to train, or experiment, to enough people to be called a success.

If anything, frequency should increase, since more opportunities for training in small focused groups typically allow more people to fit a somehow regular practice in their busy schedules...

Hey all, I'm another newbie, too busy to drive to SF, but interested in dropping by an occasional south bay jam. From the sound of it, maybe every week is too often, and once or twice a month would get better turnout?

Eh sort of, we've been holding jams every saturday at saratoga high school but generally very few people make it. Besides us, I think SFPK holds jams in san jose once or twice a month.

Hi all. Have there been any activities in the South Bay of late?
Comment by Fyrel on May 26, 2009 at 5:12pm
Yes there is. I'll set it up now.
