Thanks, Niko. I'm glad to hear that the phrase, "The only thing we've to fear is fear itself" bothered somebody else besides me as well. :)

I think what the story above shows is that fear is not entirely an internal process. The Isreali guy understood the difference between when someone really wants to kill him and when someone is expressing something else which has very little to do ...

Good post. Yes, l think fear is like an obstacle in that we should pay good attention to it when it gets in our way, but we should also overcome it when necessary.

good question Marisa, that line is too fine and too subjective. i interchange fearlessness with overconfidence-- just short of stupidity

Nice story, thanks for sharing. The subject of fear as an obstacle comes up a lot in pk (related) discussions and it's an interesting paradox how abolishing fear can mean indulging in recklessness. I've found myself asking the question, at what po...

Fear as an Obstacle

As traceurs we all encounter a great deal of obstacles, but most of them we are able to surpass after some practice (that is what parkour is all about, after all). However, there is one obstacle that is taller than the highest wall, longer than the widest gap, and deeper than the greatest drop. I'm talking, of course, about irrational fear.

I'm not going to offer a solution to getting rid of all your fear - if I had one, I'd being doing cat leaps in a vault filled with giant blocks of gold, Scr… Continue

Sunset Elementary+ Documentary Session (11-7-09)

Yesterday a group of traceurs lit up Sunset Elementary with two back-to-back parkour jams. The first was organized by BAPK, and the second by some Napa Valley guys who wanted to shoot a documentary. A ton of people came and went as the day went on, each with something really great and unique to contribute: new insights, advice, or simply a great willingness to learn - usually all three.

We began at the upper level where the playground is, generally goofing off and exploring the area. It was her… Continue

Saratoga jam review

Yesterday I attended my first BAPK jam with Fyrel and Dogwithrabiez. They were both extremely friendly and patient with my lesser degree of skill, and really weren't afraid to point out my errors and help me improve.

We started out with a bit of chatting, and moved on to vaults, then went to wall runs, balance, and flow. We wrapped up with some really intense QM training and did a short run. What's amazing is that I was really pushed my limits in each of these techniques, and drastically improv… Continue

Members can go hit any spot downtown, and shoot an alert to the whole group... somebody will show. If you have ideas for micro-session suitable spots, list them in the two discussions below, for midday and late pm trainings.
