Event Description

Meeting at the main staircase.

Session description:
This training provides a healthy atmosphere for new practitioners to start parkour, and for everyone to advance in a safe way. This is achieved in several ways. Because safety is paramount, a positive example is set by the more experienced practitioners. This means you will always see warm ups, stretching, and slow progression of movement. It also means there will be no showing off, which leads to copy-cat behavior and subsequently injuries. Rather, people pass on knowledge humbly in a group effort to advance. While there may be several different skill levels represented at these sessions, everyone keeps a beginner mentality.

Another key aspect in this beginner atmosphere is the absence of media. There are no camera crews or reporters to get in the way or cause people to feel self-conscious. While individuals may bring cameras, they should politely ask before filming/shooting anyone other than themselves.

The perception that parkour practice is (and should be) fun, yet being "a discipline, not a game", is set from the beginning. While the atmosphere is relaxed and can be playful at times, horseplay is discouraged, and teasing, mocking, and cliquish behaviors are not tolerated...

Basic/beginners training provided, but ALL LEVELS present and WELCOME!

Minors and Newcomers pls. check this frequently asked questions about liability. =)

Ha! And it's free, in case you were wondering...

Hmm...yeah, that just might be it. I'm a bit surprised it's lasted as long as it has, but I think that's it. Thanks Ryan.

DOMS

Google the acronym and see if that sounds familiar.

@Seng I actually wasn't able to make it today, but I will return.

Anyway, it's sort of both legs, but one's been more of a problem. I, too, thought it would've gone after a week past, but it hasn't quite; although, it does feel somewhat better. If it doesn't go away soon, then I'll see about getting it checked out.

@Seng and @Ryan About taking drugs.....I've never really taken any before working out or exercising. I didn't feel all that great about the idea, which is why I asked; I didn't want to aggravate it or create another problem, but really wanted to continue and didn't want my body to become weak.

I'll try resting my body a bit more, see how I feel.

@Ben Yeah, I've also been having problems with stairs, I just don't recall having that much of a problem with them in the past. Yeah, it might just be because I'm new to this. It seems like anytime one does a new physical activity or returns after a break there's some form of pain or soreness afterwards.

Thank you all for your help and for giving me your insight. I'll be seeing you in the near future.

Michelle, if you still have a problem almost a week after your last session, it sounds like you may have an injury beyond regular soreness that comes from a adjusting to a new activity, especially if it's pain rather than discomfort and if it's specific to one limb of your body. I would suggest getting it checked out in person rather than getting into an online assessment and certainly before using drugs to push through one more day of parkour at the expense of months or years down the road.

If you make it to the session today, there may be some exercises you can do which will keep you moving while minimizing stress on your leg, but be open to the possibility that we may suggest you rest rather than move. That said, occasional injuries are part of any sport so don't let an initial setback keep you from continued involvement.

It happens to everyone in the beginning. After my first session I could barely walk up stairs for a week. It gets better once your body gets use to it. I was hurting a few days after last Sunday because I took a month off.

Michelle, your body is screaming at you. Pills would be putting a ball gag in that screaming body's mouth.

Rest up and if your body if feeling better later in the week go to one of the midweek sessions if you can't wait till next Sunday.

i had so much fun last week and would really love to go again tomorrow, however, i seem to be having a problem, pain, bending my leg and putting weight on it.........so.....my question: would anyone know if just taking some pills would be good enough so i can go on tomorrow? has anyone here experienced this before or know what to do? i would greatly appreciate any help.
