Beginner Class at UC Berkeley

Location: UC Berkeley Campus
Event Type: Beginner, Class
Organized By: Lethalbeef, SFPK

Event Description

SF Parkour is testing the waters with very beginner-oriented, organized classes. Most of the people who are coming will be brand new, with this being their first jam. We did one of these last week and it worked out really well; 20+ beginners and 5 more experienced traceurs instructing.

The focus will be on getting people into the parkour mindset, helping them get used to the foundations safely and at their own pace, and providing training that encourages steady progression and regular practice.

We'd love to have you guys come, as our experience actually teaching is relatively slim, and we need all the help we can get. If we can split the groups up more ways, it'll make for better teaching. Or if any beginners would like a class we'd be glad to accommodate you. If you have any tips or advice, I'd love to hear it!

This time around we're going to be doing it at the UC Berkeley campus; we've done some scouting and found some great spots for simple drills.

Hey, to everyone who was able to make it out today, thanks for coming, I had a blast. Hope I was able to get you all fired up about coming to more jams and training. I'd love to hear your feedback and see pictures anyone took today.

I'll be at the Sunday Beginner Training session tomorrow at GWHS, so I'll see ya if you're there.

Ugh. I just realized this is on the same day as a Cal game, and I need to have my car. Next time!

Won't be able to make this one because of Cross Country. Hopefully next time.

Hey cool, responses. Awesome. If you go to the link on the description, there are pictures showing how to get to the starting point from the Downtown Berkeley BART station. Or, if you'd like, PM me and I can give you a phone number to call.

If anyone wants a preview, we'll be at the spot on Thursday as well. Cool, daddio.

looks great, sundays have been really bad for me this past month so a sat event would be great. If anyone needs a ride from SF let me know.

Hey, thanks for posting this, albert! I think that the last one was a huge success, and it would be great to get some more BAPK guys involved.

Just one more step toward peace with SFPK lol

Not sure yet If I can make it, but I can't generally do Sunday afternoons so this might be my first outside jam.

UC-Berkeley campus is about two blocks from downtown Berkeley BART. Just get out at that stop and head uphill (it'll be pretty easy to determine which way is uphill).

I intend to be there mostly to help instruction and learn to teach (since I want to still be able to train/jam on Sunday). I encourage people who are able to make it out more than one weekend day (or maybe Saturday but not Sunday) or who have been meaning to make it over on Thursday nights to come out and at least check out the wealth of possibilities on the Cal campus.
