Event Description

..we'll be meeting exactly where described on the map above, and we'll be warming up at the parking lot right on 19th and Holloway (end of Varela Ave? See map...); then we'll move around campus. Newcomers: try to show up not later than 12:15! This is a huge spot, not easy to find folks...

Basic/beginners training provided, but ALL LEVELS present and WELCOME!

Session description:
This training provides a healthy atmosphere for new practitioners to start parkour, and for everyone to advance in a safe way. This is achieved in several ways. Because safety is paramount, a positive example is set by the more experienced practitioners. This means you will always see warm ups, stretching, and slow progression of movement. It also means there will be no showing off, which leads to copy-cat behavior and subsequently injuries. Rather, people pass on knowledge humbly in a group effort to advance. While there may be several different skill levels represented at these sessions, everyone keeps a beginner mentality.

Another key aspect in this beginner atmosphere is the absence of media. There are no camera crews or reporters to get in the way or cause people to feel self-conscious. While individuals may bring cameras, they should politely ask before filming/shooting anyone other than themselves.

The perception that parkour practice is (and should be) fun, yet being "a discipline, not a game", is set from the beginning. While the atmosphere is relaxed and can be playful at times, horseplay is discouraged, and teasing, mocking, and cliquish behaviors are not tolerated...

Minors and Newcomers pls. check this frequently asked questions about liability. =)

Ha! And it's free, in case you were wondering...

saw an orthopedist today - it's a nice, clean and complete achilles tear. getting it stitched up tomorrow. good news is that the bone wasn't damaged and post-surgery recovery time is fairly quick. should be gingerly back on both of my feet in a week or so. returning to parkour will have to wait for a couple of months or more. catch you guys later.

sorry Greg :(  gonna miss seeing you around during your recovery but i hope it happens fast (relatively speaking).  do keep us posted and take care in the meantime...

I personally find the first step on the wallrun to be one of the most dynamic and stressful positions you could find in parkour.  It can be one of the most dangerous moments in parkour and have heard of several traceurs getting torn and ruptured (one had your same exact injure and was booted for 3-4 months) from that position.

Oh no, man! That sucks so bad!
:(((

Unbelievable that something so apparently harmless (the first step in the wall on a wallrun) can cause such a bad injury...

Please keep us posted on the final diagnosis and lookout for recovery.
Also, I'm so glad you did have health insurance... a thought for everyone: DON'T PRACTICE (anything, not only PK) WITHOUT BEING COVERED!
It's not worth it.

earned myself a ruptured achilles tendon on that overly aggressive wall run. don't know the full extent of the injury yet, but it's safe to say that i'll be out for a while. it's been a blast training with you guys. special thanks to giorgio and jodie for providing the guidance during these past few months and brian & keric for literally helping me to my feet today. stay safe!
