Anything in excess is bad, but I have the impression that sugar is not as big of a bad guy as previously thought. For example, connections between sugar consumption and diabetes are weaker than we believed. (Personally, I think it was misinformation spread by the Nutrasweet Conspiracy).
Anyway, if you need another reason to stay off soda besides sugar/fake sugar, calories, and swallowing carbon dioxide, I think bone loss (phosphoric acid) and caffeine are pretty good ones.

huh, i wasn't really thinking sugar i was just thinking calories... right nowive been drinking this blue g2 (low ccalorie) gatorade, I'll have to compare the sugar contents of each
Well, for the record, Gatorade isn't much better than soda in terms of sugar content. It's alright if you're drinking it at jams where you're losing a lot of water through sweat, but try to avoid drinking it as a normal beverage. Once in a while doesn't hurt though.

fairly well, Much better than before. I started drinking water and gatorade a lot more, usually having a 12 oz soda once every 2 days... before i was almost having a liter a day so... WIN! hah
