Event Description

This regular session follows by a couple of hours this special event hosted at the Nike Women's Marathon. We had a discussion on how to best schedule this in conjunction with the other, and there was agreement on the following points:
- providing the regularly scheduled basic training,
- allow people who would want to make both to have a decent break and replenish energies,
- move away from the probably busy course area.

We'll be meeting at Noon - warm-up/stretch - at 12:30pm we'll move to the Canyon for some nature techniques in addition to climbing and precision work on the nearby rock formation - 1:30/45pm back for skills and technique training (thus, if you are late and don't see us, just come to the rocks, or warm up and wait for us ). Absolute beginners/newcomers shouldn't be late!
:)

Basic/beginners training provided, but ALL LEVELS present and WELCOME!

RIDES!

Session description:
This training provides a healthy atmosphere for new practitioners to start parkour, and for everyone to advance in a safe way. This is achieved in several ways. Because safety is paramount, a positive example is set by the more experienced practitioners. This means you will always see warm ups, stretching, and slow progression of movement. It also means there will be no showing off, which leads to copy-cat behavior and subsequently injuries. Rather, people pass on knowledge humbly in a group effort to advance. While there may be several different skill levels represented at these sessions, everyone keeps a beginner mentality.

Another key aspect in this beginner atmosphere is the absence of media. There are no camera crews or reporters to get in the way or cause people to feel self-conscious. While individuals may bring cameras, they should politely ask before filming/shooting anyone other than themselves.

The perception that parkour practice is (and should be) fun, yet being "a discipline, not a game", is set from the beginning. While the atmosphere is relaxed and can be playful at times, horseplay is discouraged, and teasing, mocking, and cliquish behaviors are not tolerated...

Minors and Newcomers pls. check this frequently asked questions about liability. =)

Ha! And it's free, in case you were wondering...

Good training, regardless of weather. We split up into two groups, one staying at the playground area and one going into the canyon. I went with the canyon group and we had a bunch of fun climbing and scrambling on the wet rocks, carefully transferring skills from rectilinear spaces to more organic shapes.

We'll definitely meet there at Noon and wait a good half an hour, assessing the conditions.

We may train carefully in the light/intermittent rain, or relocate to another covered area if we deem so, and have enough transportation.

Training in the rain, even if the Canyon provides some shelter/absorbing ground, is not for everybody and every day: pls. consider your physical condition and motivation before deciding to participate. Try to be always the best judge for yourself, and never succumb to peer pressure, or to having to impress anybody, including yourself.

Awesome, this canyon is so much fun; such rarity in the city. I'll probably spend most of my time on the rocks focusing irregular surfaces.
