Event Description

The Nike Women's Marathon is a race through San Francisco to raise money and awareness for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. We traceurs, have been asked be a part of the "Extraordinary on-course support and entertainment" for some 20,000 participants.

We will be bringing obstacles and equipment down to The Embarcadero to erect our own parkour playground and would love to see you there. Some of you have already volunteered to be part of the "demo team," but there is always room for drop-ins to come play.

If you were at Life is Living, you have already been introduced to our awesome scaffolding set up. We should also have vault blocks, mats, all sorts of precision trainers, and with luck a couple of vehicles to play with. So come on by!

WHEN:
6-8:30 in freaking morning (which gives you time to make it to the monthly afterwards. Sweet!)

WHERE:
The event location is on The Embarcadero at Kearny St (map) on the plaza between Pier 35 and the park. There is a pay parking lot located at Kearny and Bay, but no dedicated parking for us, so if at all possible we encourage you to get there via public transit or to carpool.

Some things to keep in mind:
It will be cold. Maybe miserably so.
The event programmers are supplying us with some water and a handful of granola bars. We will try and have some snacks available as well, but it might be prudent to grab a Power Bar or something on your way out the door.
WHO:
Most of our "audience" will be marathon participants, marathon supporters who happen to be near us, and assorted passers-by. Our focus is to give them something fun to watch, but whenever possible we will, of course, be ready to engage and encourage participation.

See you there!

Hey, did anyone leave some clothes at the event location last Sunday? I picked them up. I have a blue long sleeve Duke University shirt and a pair of black medium training pants. Washed 'em, too.

Heroic work, guys. I wish we had more pics/film that captured the first half an hour of the event. It was truly spectacular seeing 20+ traceurs cris-crossing back and forth through all that equipment at full speed. I've never seen anything quite like it.

Another big, BIG, thank you for coming out early to help set up. I noticed that setting up at this event went about 100% smoother than at Life is Living and we had about twice as much equipment. A testament to experience and the willingness to get it done.

Some people wouldn't believe that there are people out there willing to do this kind of thing, but they also wouldn't believe that there are people who can fly. ;)

Nervous about what? getting to play on a custom built parkour playground? This just in: lethalbeef aka The Rail King, is designing a rail gauntlet just for this event. We just got permission to use the Jeep Wrangler as an obstacle (underbars, precisions, and double-k's over the hood, if you dare). Plus, ever jumped off a 12ft truck (on to crash mats, of course)? No? Well, I suggest you come try it, it's as much fun as it sounds.

I just wanted to point out that because this event is so early, you can catch breakfast AND a nap before heading over to the Basic Training Session or the Monthly Jam. :D
