I don't really think we should limit ourselves to English, but I would like to make a push for people to stop using traceur/traceuse and start using tracer or something else that doesn't require me to write both whenever I want to refer to a generic parkour practitioner (I know practitioner works, too, but I'm going for something more pk specific). While I like the expansion of language and really prefer the sound and verbal amuse bouche of the French, I'm kinda tired of the gender dualism and requisite need to write out both terms. Any suggestions?

I don't really have a problem with the different words for male and female practitioners.
Although if anyone finds it offensive I would be glad to change my ways.

Yeah, and I think we should "know our roots" too. I think keeping it French is the way to go unless anyone finds traceur and traceuse offensive.

I agree about the male/female references - for example, I (who am a woman) prefer to be called an actor rather than an actress. I can't speak for everyone, but I am happy just to use the male term for everybody. I have also noticed a trend toward dropping the feminine endings in favor of using the masculine word for everybody, comedian for example rather than comedienne. I don't really think you need to write out both terms at any rate. -- Jen (Youssif's mom)

Agreed. IMO if everybody ends up using the male terms anyway, it'll eventually become genderless and just refer to all parkour practitioners in general, not just the males.

It's like Spanish in a group one male surrounded by a hundred women, it still is given the male form.

So I would keep traceuse when the lady jams happen but otherwise we are a group of traceurs

But then again if the lady outperforms you she earns any title she wants
