Train Hard - Stay Humble

I learned how to dash vault about two weeks back, its awesome. Dashing ledges and tables is easy for me, but whenever i try dashing a rail it feels like all my weight goes directly onto my wrists. Naturally this is painful. I tried jumping lower after my friend told me i was clearing the rail too much but that didn't seem to help. Any suggestions???

When I first learned how to pass in that manner, I drilled them all the time. With rails, I felt like I wasn't actually grabbing the rail, but more like I was pushing off of it. I definitely grasp it, but only for a split second. There's only so much help I can give online without seeing it.
Most of the time you're clearing it too high, but if going lower doesn't help, you can try leaning back a little more during the vault; sometimes that works.
lol. I just dont dash. for me, its a lot safer to preform a forward lazy or "Russian dash" and deal with the extra impact than risking the dash. I tend to like things where i can see everything i do... especially the hand placement...

When i learned to dash i was quite happy. I guess it was some sort of milestone. Soon enough, I became aware that my body isnt really suited for dashes- so I stopped practicing it.... I might have done the wrong thing, but so far it is too dangerous for me to practice those.

Everybody is different, so practice, and naturally you WILL find out whats right.

how is your body not suitable for dashing? (the apocalypsel) i have never actually missed the hand placement i just feel a little more impact on my wrists than i think im supposed too...
Maybe he just means his body isn't suited for dash vaulting the walls at GWHS?

A dash doesn't necessarily make sense in all situations, but a two-hands-below, feet-ahead method works well when moving CoG (center of gravity) over and obstacle to a landing involving a drop. If the impact is too hard, it could indicate that CoG is too high when initiating jump- a correction option would be to leap from further back so the ratio of horizontal:vertical components in the approach is increased, ie you're moving more forward than up or down. Also, dash vaulting an obstacle like a picnic table on flat ground- where the level of the table is lower than where your hands normally hang so you'd have to reach down to touch the table then move up again to get your feet under you- doesn't make any practical sense, but over a railing to a lower landing (like parts of most handicapped ramps) makes a dash technique very applicable.
Messenger33, your idea worked! kind of late to reply but oh well. jumping from farther helped a lot. It feels like half the stress on my wrists is gone! HURAH!

The "Russian dash" is also known as a thief vault. (Which I will admit, is my preferred way of overcoming obstacles). However, the dash vault has the advantage of being able to utilize your momentum to clear a longer distance. To each his own, though.
I actually feel pain in the wrists sometimes when I dash also, I either dash too high or too low, lean to the right or to the left too much, I guess you should play around with it, are both your wrists hurting? Or is it one side? Do you feel the presence of your hands more when you dash lower or higher from the object? Are you leaning back in a way where weight is pushed onto the wrists, or are you leaning forward (which might help I think o_o). I guess all I can say is look at more tutorial and examples and decide which parts of the technique you can steal from others can perfect yours. Everyone is different. :)
both wrists hurt...i think i might be jumping to high because my friend told me it looked like my butt was a foot above the rail...I'm going out today to try it again, I wanna fix it up! be on my way to a nice looking dash!

Cool, definitely try it lower, it's faster and more efficient.
