After a long hiatus let's give again a try to the most classic Sunday session location ("est.d 2007"), and let's keep our fingers crossed.
UNLESS THE GATE IS OPEN, we'll meet outside of it, thanks!
Session description:
This training provides a healthy atmosphere for new practitioners to start parkour, and for everyone to advance in a safe way. This is achieved in several ways. Because safety is paramount, a positive example is set by the more experienced practitioners. This means you will always see warm ups, stretching, and slow progression of movement. It also means there will be no showing off, which leads to copy-cat behavior and subsequently injuries. Rather, people pass on knowledge humbly in a group effort to advance. While there may be several different skill levels represented at these sessions, everyone keeps a beginner mentality.
Another key aspect in this beginner atmosphere is the absence of media. There are no camera crews or reporters to get in the way or cause people to feel self-conscious. While individuals may bring cameras, they should politely ask before filming/shooting anyone other than themselves.
The perception that parkour practice is (and should be) fun, yet being "a discipline, not a game", is set from the beginning. While the atmosphere is relaxed and can be playful at times, horseplay is discouraged, and teasing, mocking, and cliquish behaviors are not tolerated...
Basic/beginners training provided, but ALL LEVELS present and WELCOME!
Minors and Newcomers pls. check this frequently asked questions about liability. =)
Ha! And it's free, in case you were wondering...

Hi, I'm interested in coming to this event but I don't want to impose. Is it cool if I come?
...thanks Nick!
Race winds down after 11:00am and is officially over at 11:30am, but plan on getting there early to cross the race, or BART to the City and get rides form locals: http://ning.it/12dHljB
Commuter alert: Bay to Breakers is also this Sunday
GWHS update (based on 5/12/13 training): about a year ago we stopped holding regular sessions at the historical first BApk location where the Sunday beginner's training started in 2007, because it seemed that the school had set a program of leasing out the sports field on Sundays and having an Athletic Facilities Director permanently on location (phew! Long sentence...).
We had respectful interaction with him, but were asked to get a permit with the City of SF to keep on training on location, which is something that wouldn't work for an ad-hoc organization like ours.
During Summer or Winter Holidays casual session have been hosted there (lastly in 2012) undisturbed.
Last Sunday, we have been running our usual program, with an emphasis on Parkour rolls, given the advantage of the sports field, and appreciating many of the valuable assets of this location.
Most importantly we have discovered a small, but potentially usable area, OUTSIDE the West side of the school complex, on 32nd Ave.
While being probably not worth it by itself (and a lot "on the street", really noticeable by drive-byres), it can potentially be used to save a session, should this be suddenly interrupted for any reason. Especially in combination with this other ramp on the west end of the track&field ring.
As always, basic rule for interactions with any worried, authoritative or annoyed responsible parties is courteously relocating.
