Train Hard - Stay Humble

SoCal Group Session no. 1 (jUiCyLA)

June 6

Heck of a session today, Socal really started the summer off right. We held our first Monthly jam of the season and it was just as crazy a time as the ones from last year :)

Never got an official head count, but I'd say upwards of 40 traceurs and traceuses made it out to UCLA to hit up the usual favorite areas and enjoy the sunny weather (it was supposed to be cloudy but it wasn't, HA). Spirit was high and we all seemed to have a good time playing and sweating together. Some of my best memories of the day were 20 or so of us conditioning up and down the fountain steps (epic backwards catcrawl mob), getting a hell of a lot of obstacles I'd never gotten before (I feel so much stronger :D), and hanging out after the session to grab dinner with half the crew and sit around talking for hours - we trained from 12-7pm, and my carpool left early a little after 10pm. Some may still be hanging out back there even as I write this..

All around a great, great day; I saw some faces I wasn't expecting and some I hadn't seen in a very long time. Even Sengmaster made a guest appearance :] I HOPE THE NEXT MONTHLY IS EVEN AWESOMER (a challenge we can handle).

PEACE

Btw cool new game: working your way around a tree for a full minute. Ask Seng to show you.

there are a lot of fun pk related games; two others are fetch and metroid. "Metroid: Something lethalbeef and I used to play a lot in SD. Two people move by only rolling on the ground. One person chases the other. Careful when you hit each other." - Wasabe. And Fetch is exactly what you think it is: [link]

That was a fun session- wish I could have been there for more and not gotten split up from the group going to food (but I was getting picked up for karaoke anyway). There's so much to do at UCLA and LA in general, from what I can see driving around. I've got that gap- the DB fall, for lack of a better reference- in my head now; I felt that I could do it physically but wasn't willing to go that day, which is fine since it usually takes one visit for me to let an obstacle become a recurring visualization before I feel I have to do it the next visit.

Along with the tree game (mostly about picking a spot and timing endurance), I liked sharks and minnows a lot, too- we should do more games like that which work on agility and movement.
