Do they make them pay because they don't have regular jobs? I've always wondered how people train so much...I mean what about the rest of your life? Job especially.

Stephane, get your ass down there and do it alongside him, you're not his damn Sargent...

I refer you to that, where I didn't even post a lot, but where I've formed my opinion on the matter, which goes pretty much along these lines (not mine):

"Learning from an experienced athlete won't gain you much if they don't know how to teach you.
Especially if their skills came easy, or naturally to them.

In martial arts belts [are] gained when a person exceeds their own potential. Years of experience generally has nothing to do with how fast you earn belts. "Kung-fu" means "habit", and some people are able to develop habits faster than others, so they progress...
It can take a person 3 years or 3 days to realize how something works, so experience really don't mean jack.

I could go to a lot of experienced business men to help me start a company, but if their methods don't suit my principles, then what's the point? how is that effective?"

Comment by SafeNSure on March 5, 2009 at 5:24pm: It is not important... but Stephan's descriptions of the past are confusing, and not really relevant to what PKGen has in mind as a business, and why do they portray themselves as the saviors of the world-wide parkour community.

It's only one out of 10 points that I found ironic... maybe the irony is that we are discussing about him and his past, like he would be some sort of evangelist, while all it really matters is how he has trained all these years, and how he practices now.

Comment by SafeNSure on March 5, 2009 at 2:05pm: I think that what Hillex means is that it's "unhealthy" for the growth of the worldwide parkour community to have one big Certification dispensed, by a self-nominated central authority...

It would be much better to have a certain set of very high standards, established by the local communities worldwide, and falling back on some core principles, say: disciplined training, safety, long-term health concerns, practice longevity, a.s.o.

The overall length of one's experience is not necessarily a guarantee of: good technique, teaching skills, leadership ability, etc..; it is just what it is, "a long experience"... some people learn more and can teach further, others not.

Actually, I think that Parkour Generations had the right intentions when they started. However, I really dislike what they are trying to do with programs like "ADAPT". They are trying to establish themselves as an authority.

I think stephane Vigroux is great though, as well as the rest of Yamakasi (including DB and SF). How could I NOT like them? They are the founders! I wish I could imitate their style of training and mindset, but I just can't do it! It's frustrating!

Anyway, this is all old soup (already!), now that "people without the right intention" did it... also.

It's going to be interesting to hear Parkour Generations reaction: it's a conflict between British/French didactic approach vs. American (US) entertainment approach... let's see.

Also let's see how many people can see through this fog.

@Giorgio: Yeah, that is interesting. Maybe he changed his mind, or maybe he is speaking for PK Gen...can't quite tell...

And I don't understand irony #5, what do you mean?
