I think it was when cavemen were beating each others brains out and one of them figured out that he could avoid getting killed if he just jumped through those bushes and over that gap...

@ Hillex: IMO they were trying to show that during practice there's a certain degree of controlled risk-taking, especially if one pushes the envelope to accelerate progression (goes back to the topic of slow-progression/dilution...); it's one way in which parkour is.

@ Mizu: ...even in the French version he says that "he is/was at the origins of the parkour movement" (have heard him saying that before in older interviews). That sound humble enough to me... why would he have to mention the Yamakasi in an interview, since he was in the original formation, and, of that group besides him only Yann Hnautra still practices? they didn't call it parkour back then, and it probably didn't have the utilitarian characteristics that David attributed it...

Great teachings as usual. Still controversy on Parkour origins, what about the Yamakasi?

I wonder why they put in that footage of all those people being reckless and falling while jumping around on their makeshift obstacles? I don't know whether they were trying to show what parkour is, or trying to show what it is not.

I found this pretty inspirational. PARKOUR. Uh. Before anyone else makes a fuss, it's efficiently, not creatively.

We all know how hard it is to get up to the jams in SF every weekend. How about organizing a couple jams closer to home and repping the South Bay?
