Train Hard - Stay Humble

Wow! I think this is worth posting! Today I worked on flips on my neighbor's trampoline, and I can finally do a good front flip. Yeah, I know, it's easy n a trampoline, but I was doing it without jumping before the flip. I think I'm going to go for it next time at Ocean Beach off of one of the walls if I'm feeling confident enough that day. For now, I'll just keep practicing on the trampoline.

I agree. Whatever is efficient is parkour. I called flips "not parkour" because I don't think that there are many, if any situations where they are efficient. I don't even do flips in the middle of a flow or anything, because they don't fit in with the purpose of a flow, or most other thing we do in parkour training.

BTW: Sorry I haven't made it out recently. My dad got mad at me and said that I couldn't go to parkur for 2 weeks. I've still trained at home though. I'll try as hard as I can to make it this week.

Its not a black and white issue. Ultimately it is up to the practitioner to decide what is efficient for them. There are many things that could potentially make sense in parkour that are inefficient the majority of the time. While a flip generally takes more energy and adds an unnecessary element of danger, it could make sense for a certain person in a certain situation...so its really incorrect to say that, "flips are not parkour." A more accurate statement would be, "flips are inefficient in terms of parkour the majority of the time." Make sense?

I don't think that flips are parkour. In fact, I try to separate them from my parkour training. I do flips mostly to have fun and build confidence. They are not parkour, but they can be helpful in parkour training, like pushups or stretches.
