Seeing how much input you've got on the interesting thread you initiated, I'm not going to chime in there, but I would only like to add that I wouldn't recommend anybody (starting out or not), to practice by themselves, late at night in the dark... male or female, young or grown up, there are too many safety and security concerns connected to that... going from the most obvious to the fact that one might want to be with a buddy in the very rare, but not impossible, likelihood that one would get hurt.
Having said that, as you've been directed already on the thread, sign up with these guys and/or these gals, and get some guidance, we are all here because we like to help and share...
