I have no idea why they're different, but I participate in both of their events. I think the people who started both of the groups had some "differences" so they decided to part ways, but really, (I am a beginner too), at our level, I dont think it matters as long as we get the good instruction and free training that we need in a safe environment with great teachers. (and both SF Parkour and BA Parkour have GREAT teachers who are generous with their time and are happy to take you through incremental progression so that you build up to the moves that you do and minimize your chances of getting hurt). Andrey (Friday night class at 7pm) is probably the master at incremental progression. He focuses on a LOT of conditioning, so that by the time you do the moves, you are strong enough to execute them properly, with good technique and safely.
Anyhow, yeah, check out both forums. the other one is less pretty than this site, but has a lot of good training events and you'll notice that a lot of people are on both.
Hi Erin,
There are a lot of free trainings and classes posted both under the "Events" section on this website and also on www.sfparkour.com. There are sessions for beginners and conditioning throughout the week as well if weekends don't work for you. We do a conditioning workout on Monday nights. This week we are meeting up at 15th and Kirkham (stairs) at 6:15pm. (but usually those are at Kezar). There is also a Friday night class at 7pm on 10th Ave (b/w Geary and Clement) taught by this guy Andrey. That class is specifically for beginners and is free as well. Wednesday nights Jodie teaches at AcroSports (that is not free, but Jodie is a great teacher and you get to use mats and soft obstacles, so it is not as dangerous to train there). Then there are a ton of sessions out by UC Berkeley that are posted on www.sfparkour.com - just go to their forum and look under training and classes (or something like that).
Hope to see you out there soon.
~Michelle :)
Welcome Erin,
Are you coming to our Women's Jam this Saturday?
Jodie's a great person to learn from and she will be there. Hope to meet you soon.
~Michelle :)
