Train Hard - Stay Humble

Sunday Basic Training scheduling repetitions

Dear BApkers,

after almost 5 years of regular Sunday trainings for beginners (which are also back-to-basics sessions for more experienced traceurs), in 2012 we decided to experiment with a new formula for scheduling training locations by (1.) repeating the same training location twice in a row, while (2.) at the same time planning the whole month in advance.

As we all know, the purpose of the Sunday sessions is to work on fundamentals and caters primarily to beginners and to newcomers looking for a welcoming introduction to the discipline and the community.

With that in mind, BApk organizers and coaches have reassessed the following:

- repetition is necessary when learning new skills, allowing for linear progression and a better learning experience for each technique;

- coming back to the same spot, and revisiting specific obstacles, is a good way for beginners to make goals and deepen their focus, by trying to achieve what they couldn't accomplish the previous week;

- for a more experienced practitioner, going to the same spot back-to-back allows him/her to look for new lines, different type challenges, and even just experiment with the same movement in a new light;

- repeating and scheduling sessions for a whole month will make it more predictable and reliable for newcomers, who are still trying to understand what are their options in terms of training.

While we completely understand and appreciate the need to maintain training fresh, which make beginners come back, helping them build a desire to keep learning, as well as offering a certain degree of variety to experienced practitioners and organizers, in order to keep up their motivation and desire to give back to the group, we deem that this new formula will be beneficial to the organic growth of all participants and of the community as a whole.

Also, it will keep us from manically trying to use all the cool stuff in a location at every visit.

:)

Of course we are also familiar with the possible issue of "overstaying our welcome", and we'll react accordingly, if for any reason we may deem a location not suitable for repetition, because of the risk of being too conspicuous, or because of any other logistical complication (public works, other organized event, weather, etc.).

So, please support as much as possible the organizers in this new scheduling, by arriving to training reasonably on time, participating to the warm-up (a fundamental part of training, which will improve your performance while keeping you as injury free as possible), and keeping an energized, positive and creative attitude throughout the training and its repetition.

Thanks, train hard and stay safe!
