Event Description

We'll meet and warmup in front of Doe Memorial Library (north side by the Memorial Glade), basically the center of campus. If you get turned around, head toward the clocktower (visible from just about anywhere on campus); once you get there, the Library/Glade is downhill and to the right.

Easiest parking is usually on the north side of campus, but campus is only a few blocks from Downtown Berkeley BART (arrives in 20 minute intervals on Sundays so don't miss your train).

Most buildings are closed during the summer break so please be sure to BRING YOUR OWN WATER.

Basic/beginners training provided, but ALL LEVELS present and WELCOME!

Session description:
This training provides a healthy atmosphere for new practitioners to start parkour, and for everyone to advance in a safe way. This is achieved in several ways. Because safety is paramount, a positive example is set by the more experienced practitioners. This means you will always see warm ups, stretching, and deliberate progression of movement. It also means there will be no showing off, which leads to copy-cat behavior and subsequently injuries. Rather, people pass on knowledge humbly in a group effort to advance. While there may be several different skill levels represented at these sessions, everyone keeps a beginner mentality.

Another key aspect in this beginner atmosphere is the absence of media. There are no camera crews or reporters to get in the way or cause people to feel self-conscious. While individuals may bring cameras, they should politely ask before filming/shooting anyone other than themselves.

The perception that parkour practice is (and should be) fun, yet being "a discipline, not a game", is set from the beginning. While the atmosphere is relaxed and can be playful at times, horseplay is discouraged, and teasing, mocking, and cliquish behaviors are not tolerated...

Minors and Newcomers pls. check this frequently asked questions about liability. =)

Ha! And it's free, in case you were wondering...

@Brain: of course you may bring along who you want (especially an expert in "human movement"); maybe offer him to participate beyond observing, if he would like to.
As always, no professional video/photo taking, and always asking before shooting others please.

My Hapkido master wants to observe a session to get ideas for a movie he's making, so he might be here with me on Sunday.

make sure to stay away from the railsets at the wooden buildings past the asian library.  They are pissy there and will kick you out.

...perfect!
Tell the Saturday attendees (or whoever can't make it) that they can repeat on Sunday.

FYI - Saturday, July 9th is SFpk's Monthly Beginners' Class, which is every 2nd Saturday and alternates between downtown SF and UC Berkeley. This month it's in Berkeley.

Just something to keep in mind when scheduling sessions in the future.

PS - Volunteers with coaching experience are always appreciated at these community dependent classes.
