Bay Area Parkour

Train Hard - Stay Humble

In martial arts many fighting styles are drawn from the movements of animals such as, monkeys, tigers, snakes, and the praying mantis. I'm trying to study this in the way it would relate to parkour, now instead of studying how animals fight, I want to find similarities in how animals move. The below pictures show similarities regarding, kongs, precisions, and cat leaps. Is the movement of these animals considered to be what we aim for? To move as fast and efficiently close to these animals? Or is parkour our own defined collection of movements?

Parkour is not a defined set of moves, its a mindset of movement. Moves are the words, movement is the conversation we have with our environment including static obstacles (rails, benches, walls, etc.) and dynamic ones (people, traffic). We draw upon animal movement and adapt them to our individual, human physiology the same way we study new languages to understand the ideas of different cultures; we may never be fluent (after all, we have naturally developed to be bipeds), but we can increase the depth of our understanding of both mind and body.
