I'm setting a goal of running (or at least moving without stopping) the Oakland half marathon on March 23rd of this year. I usually only run as part of other activities like parkour or ultimate and primarily as part of warming up so running as an activity in and of itself is very new to me. I'm already a week behind in the 12-week novice half marathon training plans I have found online! Luckily, running 3 miles or is no problem so hopefully I can build up to the 13.1 with a measured, deliberate progression.
I'm mentioning this here because it means that for the next few months, parkour is going to be a little lower in my priority list as far as movement goes. I think I'll still find time for it as part of cross training, but in short doses rather than multi-hour sessions. Maybe that will mean more coaching and less moving, but it will probably mean not really contributing too much. I'm still intending to come out to Sunday sessions, but partly to give me time for a long run as I build up the miles. Given my erratic attendance in the last few months, that might not be very noticeable to most folks (thanks a lot to all the session leads who have been stepping up), but I figured I'd let y'all know anyway.
If anyone has run a half marathon or longer, I'd be glad to listen to any advice you are willing to give. If anyone would like to join me on runs during the week, I'd be up for that, too.
