Train Hard - Stay Humble

swing those arms!

If you've ever trained with me, you've heard me say over and over (other than lean forward) "SWING YOUR ARMS!" i have always been a fan of, and will every single time, tell you to use the full extension of your arm swing. swing both of your hands all the way (comfortably) behind you. as you swing your arms forward- don't bend at the elbows, keep them straight (other than the very slight natural bend that comes from remaining relaxed), don't tense up, and then reach out fully in front of… Continue

Jamming in the Philippines

While on vacation, i was fortunate enough to jam with the guys and gals of the Philippine Parkour and FreeRunning Association. Raven, the organizer of the jam, invited me to come to Quezon City Circle, a national park for a jam on Monday 23 Feb 09 (an extended weekend for students). i am officially asymmetrical

today i realized just how much i favor one side. well, i always knew that i did that but just thought-- it's just my good side, it's the way i'm comfortable, it's the way i "do it better," and it's more FUN doing the movements the way i know how to well. but today while working out and doing simple movements, i noticed physically that i am way weaker (strength, technique, flow) on my "bad" side. it's kind of detrimental by now!

i've been training parkour for over a year now and have… Continue

alone at sloat

i practiced by myself today, amazingly had a bit of focus too, but i had a goal, and that was the double kong. i picked a small obstacle, so small you can just step over it (bottom part of a slide), but since it was so low i started (tried to start) low to begin with (not hard with my height). i regular konged it, hand-walk konged, then step double konged (??). tried to keep getting my ass higher and higher each time.

anyway, here's the progression of it:… Continue

i'm back in the game

it happens- people plateauing, but happily mine was short lived... like a week (maybe 2)! ok, maybe it was just a confidence thing that week that i didn't necessarily do anything better than i was doing. i even briefly lost my my dash. but i've got it back and i'm learning and perfecting (trying to) more and more things. eternal and perpetual thanks of course to kaos who taught me everything from the very beginning and enforced safety, consistency, and progression (this concept is sounding like… Continue
