This was the tree.
Tree #8639. If you ever go to Tahoe Vista on the north shore, its worth making a mini pilgrimage over to this tree if you want to try climbing.
It is the perfect tree to climb because it has all the perfect grooves in all the right areas for you to step up on.

You know, we tried the surrounding trees and the same technique works, but you can't get as high on some of them due to the shape and firmness of the bark. Tree #8639 was definitely one of the better ones . . . haha . . . then I tried some later that day on different trees on a different beach and slipped all the way down because the bark at the top was loose and I grabbed onto it without checking it first.
