Event Description

...at this location in particular: STAY OFF THE ROOFS AT ALL TIMES! Thanks.
(fall back location, in case of problems, is CCSF)

Basic/beginners training provided, but ALL LEVELS present and WELCOME!

Check here for RIDES.

Session description:
This training provides a healthy atmosphere for new practitioners to start parkour, and for everyone to advance in a safe way. This is achieved in several ways. Because safety is paramount, a positive example is set by the more experienced practitioners. This means you will always see warm ups, stretching, and slow progression of movement. It also means there will be no showing off, which leads to copy-cat behavior and subsequently injuries. Rather, people pass on knowledge humbly in a group effort to advance. While there may be several different skill levels represented at these sessions, everyone keeps a beginner mentality.

Another key aspect in this beginner atmosphere is the absence of media. There are no camera crews or reporters to get in the way or cause people to feel self-conscious. While individuals may bring cameras, they should politely ask before filming/shooting anyone other than themselves.

The perception that parkour practice is (and should be) fun, yet being "a discipline, not a game", is set from the beginning. While the atmosphere is relaxed and can be playful at times, horseplay is discouraged, and teasing, mocking, and cliquish behaviors are not tolerated...

Minors and Newcomers pls. check this frequently asked questions about liability. =)

Ha! And it's free, in case you were wondering...

...which, I imagine, could be an interesting (nature?) spot in the off-concert season. (see GMap)
If you go, take a look at ramps, access and random stuff...

For anyone interested, I'll probably be heading off to Stern Grove (walking distance from Sloat) afterwards. FREE concerts there every Sunday in the Summer - cool music (but usually packed!)

...as a general rule, whoever gets there late (or lat-er), should spend 10/15 minutes warming up by themselves.
Instead of just jumping right into it, only because peeps are already rolling.
Go for a little run, get a light sweat, sprint once or twice, get out of breath and do some dynamic powerstretches (throw your arms, swing your legs, rotate your joints...).
Ina, JustSteve and Seng, i.e., are masters at this (...and look! they lasted a while longer than most -for now- = it works!).

Most injuries that don't happen in the last 15 minutes of the day ("I'm gonna do just one more!" or "I really wanna try this before going..."), happen in the first 15, with lousy or non-existent warm-ups.

Get in the Zone!

dude, that thing was like a year ago, i'm sure that the cops/people forgot about it. or at least they were positioned to a different place hopefully
Comment by Ryan Fulmer on July 17, 2009 at 2:33pm
Yeah then I dunno what the cop story is at this place. I don't think of will be a problem.

I will be there at 1120 to teach new people if they want. I have to be on the road by 130 for work, so if you want to work on something get there early
