Event Description

MEETING POINT: map here!

This is a rare outdoor covered spot, which allows for dry training even in pouring rain. Weather permitting we will check Hensill Hall surroundings.

Basic/beginners training provided, but ALL LEVELS present and WELCOME!

Session description:
This training provides a healthy atmosphere for new practitioners to start parkour, and for everyone to advance in a safe way. This is achieved in several ways. Because safety is paramount, a positive example is set by the more experienced practitioners. This means you will always see warm ups, stretching, and slow progression of movement. It also means there will be no showing off, which leads to copy-cat behavior and subsequently injuries. Rather, people pass on knowledge humbly in a group effort to advance. While there may be several different skill levels represented at these sessions, everyone keeps a beginner mentality.

Another key aspect in this beginner atmosphere is the absence of media. There are no camera crews or reporters to get in the way or cause people to feel self-conscious. While individuals may bring cameras, they should politely ask before filming/shooting anyone other than themselves.

The perception that parkour practice is (and should be) fun, yet being "a discipline, not a game", is set from the beginning. While the atmosphere is relaxed and can be playful at times, horseplay is discouraged, and teasing, mocking, and cliquish behaviors are not tolerated...

Minors and Newcomers pls. check this frequently asked questions about liability. =)

Ha! And it's free, in case you were wondering...

David, please send us your mailing address and we will send out a BAPK t-shirt for your daughter! Thank you both so much for attending.

Thanks David, that's nice.

In case of pouring rain with side wind, we can always use a couple of thick rags or old towels to dry the surfaces we are using. But in general we are fine without.

Other than that you just need comfortable, layered athletic clothing, sneakers, and water. Also restrooms are a bit randomly accessible, so please consider that.

OK - very cool; I'm convinced.  :)

We will be there.  My daughter is totally excited.  Is there anything we could bring for the group?

Hey David, good hearing from you.

I will be there tomorrow, and have been training with this group for the last 10 years. We have had many different parent/kid combinations starting out or training with us over time, so no worries.

Sometimes my daughter (12) is joining me (50), hence I can relate. :)

Tomorrow we'll be somehow limited by the covered location, if it rains. But hopefully still worth your while.

I can't talk for APEX, and I always like training in the gym, even if:

Thank you for the very quick reply.  The only other place we are checking into is APEX Movement in Concord for tomorrow.  Are they good?  They haven't gotten back to us yet so we are still planning to meet up with you.  I will let you know ASAP if anything changes on our end.

Hi David. Thanks for your interest in parkour, especially Bay Area Parkour. We would love to have you and  your daughter join us tomorrow. We at BAParkour strive to maintain a beginner friendly environment and you definitely won't be a hinder to us or our group. Unfortunately, we don't do 1 on 1 lessons but we know of several places that do. We would love to have you guys come out and join us for our beginner-friendly Basic Training Sundays.

My daughter (14) and I were looking for something interesting to do on our dad-daughter day tomorrow and parkour came up as something we have both been consistently interested in.  We don't want to screw up the group because we are both 100% newbies.  We would be happy to pay for a 1:1 lesson if anyone is interested in that.  Thanks in advance for any help you can give an ex-skateboarder dad trying to be half-way cool with his daughter.

I'm 30 and stupid and haven't figured out the whole "how to read a calendar" thing
