Train Hard - Stay Humble

December 2008 Blog Posts (11)

My year-end training abroad (Italy)

flash back: I banged my left knee pretty bad a month and a half ago and have been recovering slowly, but surely ever since, even if I suffered minor yet painful dings here-and-there, and am probably still about 90%.

fastforward: the day after tomorrow I'll be flying back to the Bay after a two short weeks stay in my motherland (Italy), where I (surprisingly!) managed to train 5… Continue

Training Solo vs. Training with a Group -Which is better? How to train solo?

I find training solo to be hard, I often will go out and train alone, but be "tired" within a half hour. What I really need is just a one on one session with an experienced tracuer to start me off with solo training. Or any tracuer for that matter. Does any one else know what I'm talking about when I say, that training alone tires you out faster and makes you less eager? I want to know how solo training should be structured, how my mentality should be, when is it enough? And where? Should I cut… Continue

Another Ankle Update (last one, I swear)

It's official, I have a second-degree sprained ankle. The doctor told me i probably sprained it the first time around and then when I twisted it again, I messed it up pretty badly. I'm officially not allowed to run on my ankle for at least a month or so. (4-6weeks according to the doc) and that definitely means no parkour.

I'm pretty bummed out about it but I know if I try to test my ankle too soon, I'm going to hurt it further. I'm probably going to continue working my upper body… Continue

Life, Parkour, and the Soul of the Warrior

Why am I the way I am? Why do I devote hours of time and energy to movement? Why do I strive to learn an ancient art of weaponry and defense? Why is it that whenever I read about ancient times I feel as though I've been born in the wrong century?

I believe that it is natural to be the way I am. Others may not agree, but I think that this feeling is within all of us, to a certain degree. I believe that in order to truly live and face fear, anger, loneliness, confusion, and grief, one must… Continue

Flying

I’m not seven years old anymore

Sitting on the sidelines watching,

Thinking “I could never do that” and yet

Always my strength and balance are overtopped

By the sinking feeling of worthlessness

Never measuring up

The humiliation of failing in front of others is nothing

Compared to the death of confidence

Already rotting in my skull

Before I ever take the first step.

I see them flying, leaping tumbling running

And I know I can never do that,… Continue

First day of training = Ow Ow Ow Ow Ow ...Ow

Everything hurt when I tried to get out of bed this morning. My back, shoulders, arms, thighs and calves. It was 6:30 in the morning, and my alarm kept saying "Wake up wake up wake up wake up wake up wake up wake up" in it's monotone g#. I thought I heard it raining, but that was just our old ass heater in the living room. Its like a fireplace, but easier to light. That was the only thing getting me out of bed in the morning. That, and the realization that if it wasn't yet raining, it would be… Continue

Ankle update - I'm going to be out for a while

I managed to re-injure my ankle at school today while it was raining. I twisted it and it popped even worse than I did at Acro. I can't even walk on it now and I'm pretty sure a visit to the doctor is in order now. I'm pretty sure this means I'm going to be out from doing pk for a while.

Just in time for my twenty-first birthday, tomorrow. Lame.

I might make it out some jams just to take some video footage. My dad gave me a digital video cam for my birthday and I'm itching… Continue

Winter break training

Hey all. I don't post here often, but I miss alot of y'all over here. I'm going to be lots of scouting and training over winter break (12-17 to about 1-15-09) and it'd be great to meet up with a few of you. Here's my list of spots. Send me an email or give me a phone call to get in touch. I have lots of room in my car (6 seats) for the long trips like Sac, SC, and CSUEB. Let's do this.

Doctor's Note

So I went to the doctor today, and the first reaction he had was "What the hell did you do to your legs?"

So after explaining what had happened, and reciting my parkour pitch (still need to work on the wording: I still get the worried glance) he examined it and had me sent down to x-ray just in case. Gladly, no fracture or bone scrape; the tibia and fibula are strong bones. I really just need to take it easy until it heals completely.

But bloody hell, it still hurts to… Continue

i am officially asymmetrical

today i realized just how much i favor one side. well, i always knew that i did that but just thought-- it's just my good side, it's the way i'm comfortable, it's the way i "do it better," and it's more FUN doing the movements the way i know how to well. but today while working out and doing simple movements, i noticed physically that i am way weaker (strength, technique, flow) on my "bad" side. it's kind of detrimental by now!

i've been training parkour for over a year now and have… Continue

Injured and feeling like an idiot

First time I've been to the gym in more than a month, extremely happy that I got myself out of the house and looking forward to doing pk to get my mind off of the impending finals I've got. And I roll my ankle on the first run I do across the floor, popping something in my ankle. It's swollen up and now is bruised up the bottom part of my calf.

I'm super annoyed at myself right now. Let this be a lesson for all the kids, make sure you know exactly where you're putting your feet at… Continue
