Edit on Goals for 2009 and Random Feeling

So, lately, I've had dreams where my legs and knees (particularly my knees) have been hurting a lot and I've woken up from them because they really have been hurting. I'm guessing this is from doing a lot of precision and power jumping but I'm not sure. Anyone else experience this? Anyway, I've stopped doing so much of that and have started concentrating on walking on railings and catwalks.

So, this brings me to an edit of what I am going to focus on for the rest of Spring and… Continue

The Transcended Body- philosophy

The body is the shape of the mind, and the mind is the shape of the spirit which can be molded by the way we move in the world. We are all capable of changing our bodies beyond that which we currently believe is possible. However, it takes commitment, consistency, and a clear and compelling reason to adopt habits that bring about the changes we want for ourselves. In partnership with our clients, we strive to reach new heights, transcend old boundaries, and transform the body as we help develop… Continue

Trigger Point Therapy & Accupressure's Potent Points

While this isn't directly related to parkour, everyone gets injured and/or sore, and these books have been tremendously helpful. They also saved me a ton from what I'd spend on sports massage.

The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook taught me how to massage trigger points to reduce or remove pain from strained necks,… Continue

Calluses or (worse) "Rips" anybody? (re-run)

...this has been published ages ago on 'another forum' but the content is all mine, and I hear the topic is still interesting, thus I've gladly 'recycled' it.

[advice: gross, but useful content follows...] :)

Calluses and 'Rips':

...so: you finally had your first Parkour-related torn (hand-)callus yesterday?

Hurts like hell, it's more or less bloody/messy as your average torn toe-blister from running, or hand-blister from… Continue

Two weeks or so...

Okay! Well, if I can remember correctly, it's been over a month since I started? Hehe, defiantly worked on my diet, which has made me much happier, but between work and school, I only have time to get out a really train once a week. :(

I'm still working on a few things:

-Getting over chain link fences quickly and efficiently. I've gotten some great advice from people, and I'm hoping to start working on that soon.

-I wish, oh I wish, that where I train had the perfect place… Continue

Insurance... enough said

Yeah so instead of actually getting better this past month I have been fighting over tests that are necessary which they won't pay for and not paying for the tests they did that weren't necessary. On the bright side it looks like my back is bad, but not a lost cause.

I start physical therapy next week. Hopefully that will bring me up to active status. I would assume no jumping or rolling for a while, but it would be nice to have some medical clearance to just run for a bit. Whatever… Continue

Jamming in the Philippines

While on vacation, i was fortunate enough to jam with the guys and gals of the Philippine Parkour and FreeRunning Association. Raven, the organizer of the jam, invited me to come to Quezon City Circle, a national park for a jam on Monday 23 Feb 09 (an extended weekend for students). He, along with Sam, (who together introduced freerunning to the Philippines), picked me (+2) up at a meeting spot and took us to QC Circle. Everyone was very friendly! We started at about 8:30am when it was probably… Continue

First blog, and beginner.

Not much of a blogger, so this most likely won't get updated for a while. But just a little about me:

I've really just started Parkour...this week. >.>

Still working on strength training and building up my endurance.

My biggest problem is I have exercise induced asthma. Even though it isn't serious, it can be a hindrance.

Other than simple strength training, I'm working on rolling first and foremost, and going out on days I'm not working or at school to practice, both… Continue

Monday Conditioning

I got home alright - they lost my luggage for a day but no big deal.

Trained Monday night with my brother. Turns out the brick wall at the front our house I thought would be awesome is in fact ... unstable.

We have some gym equipment at home so did some boxing and free weights as part of the session.

Alternated stair box jumps (big stairs, 3 up, 3 down) with 20 push ups with little break.

It's very different training in the heat.

Haven't… Continue

Jump Sky High!

Recently I went to Sky High Sports in Santa Clara and I highly recommend it. It was only $9 for an hour of jumping which turned out to be more than I bargained for. I got on the trampolines and started bouncing all over the place continually. I went up and down as high as I could, did front flips, back flips, jumped off the walls as far as I could, and finally I was completely exhausted. I had to bend over and take a breather. My lungs burned,… Continue

Marin anybody?

comrades, fellow parkour/freerunning peoples of the bay area, would anyone be interested in having a jam in Marin County (my home-front) ?

I would willingly set up an event on the website but I'm not sure if anyone would have the impetus to make the trip. Anybody down? i know a great spot that we won't get kicked out of!

Inertia; getting outside.

I need to be kidnapped.

There is always some reason I can not get out to Doe Library on Thursday between 6 and 8. There was my sister who was in rehab, and she had meetings that I wanted to go to in order to better support her. And there were other reasons. I remembered my reason for last week... but now I don't. They were all very good reasons. I remember that much.

I was forced to look in my facebook back log, and I see that I was only doing house work, instead of… Continue

Injuries, soreness, and uncomfortable things

Recently, I've discovered an interesting trend with how I progress in parkour. If I'm injured, even in some small way, fear will grip me whenever I'm doing even the simplest things, and more often than not, I'll be unable to complete simple vaults that I've done a hundred times before(See: Turn vaults). This was a big thing for me when I had shin splints, as it was difficult for me to hang on to the things I already knew, much less learn new things or get better at all.

Which brings… Continue
